Maybe you’ve pondered the decision of counseling. Maybe you just didn’t know where to begin or were hesitant to get started. Well you’ve found the right place!
So..what exactly is an intake?
INTAKE PROCESS
HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
I understand that time is of the essence; therefore, I strive to maintain a straight-forward and efficient intake process. If you are interested in scheduling an intake to initiate the beginning steps for individual Therapy, please review the information below as it covers key information all clients should be aware of prior to engagement.
Once you have reviewed the information below, there are 3 ways to proceed…either call me at 539.302.4782 or you may use the CONTACT form, or simply schedule an appointment on the website! Intakes are conducted during the evenings on Mondays through Thursdays and on Saturday mornings.
1. What is the counseling process like?
There are roughly around 5 stages of progression otherwise known as the counseling process. They are: (A) developing a relationship, (B) making an informed assessment, (C) establishing mutually agreed upon goals and objectives while developing interventions/ and an (D) implementation plan, and (E) resiliency, maintenance or termination. These also can be combined. Please look at the How to Get Started section for an overview.
2. What is the intake process like? The Intake is a 45-minute specialized appointment where I will go over the program in more detail. During the intake I discuss the clinical aspects of treatment, procedures, rights, responsibilities and answer any clinical questions you may have. It also serves as an opportunity for you to interview/ask me any questions you have and to see if we are a good fit. Whenever you meet a clinician there a few questions you should ask. 1. If he/she is licensed? 2. What are their credentials. 3. If they have experience in areas/specific matters that concern you. 4. Whether he/she is licensed, and if they are paneled with your insurance carrier. During the intake process I answer all of these and will also provide an overview about the therapeutic process and guide you through the initial paperwork and enrollment forms with you. Once you have a thorough understanding we will schedule an assessment for the following appointment. I have streamlined the approach to get all of the initial paperwork completed during the meeting while also answering any questions you may have regarding treatment.
I have found that 98% of clients come away pleased from the intake and are able to schedule an assessment, please be re-assured that all prospective clients who attend an intake are under no obligation to commit to any additional services at the time of the appointment.
3. Do I need to bring anything?
Yes, you will need a form of I.D. If you have insurance also bring the insurance card, and a list of any medications. Last but not least, try to bring a smile :) If you have prior psychological assessments or healthcare provider letters / documentation that is relevant to your treatment/ court orders, etc. please bring them with you as well.
4. What happens after my intake appointment?
Once the intake is completed we will schedule the assessment process which is a two hour appointment to discuss your individual needs and goals.
HOW DO I PREPARE FOR MY INTAKE?
Understand that all services are non-rushed and non-pressured. It’s a relaxed atmosphere and conversation that we engage in to discuss your needs. Know that I also understand how it feels to be in the other chair. The lobby we’ve created serves as a comfortable space for many. For the most part, the only preparations you need to take is to encourage yourself that you are making the right decision, and once you walk through these doors, you will realize that you have! There are some items I will ask for which are listed at the bottom of this page
