How are ESA’s Prescribed.
I have been fortunate to receive adequate training and continuing education regarding Emotional Support Animals. I am familiar of the housing and travel laws in reference to ESA’s. Please know that getting an ESA prescribed is a process and not just a one time visit. If you are experiencing mental health difficulties and feel that an emotional support animal may be beneficial, and would love to have a “furry pal” or “mans best freind” etc that can assist you in treatment, contact me and let’s get you started to determine whether it may be appropriate for you. Below I have outlined the process.

-
Intake/Assessment
The intake/assessment is typically the second appointment. It’s also whats called an information gathering setting where you describe symptoms, and history of what has taken place. It gives you an opportunity to speak your truth, and for me to understand your story.
-
Treatment Plan.
The next appointment occurs when we develop the treatment plan based off of the results of your assessment. This is where we also begin to form a therapeutic alliance and formulate an evidenced based plan based on your needs, strengths and weakness.
-
Work Treatment Plan
We begin to work the treatment plan, whether it be individual psychotherapy, medication management, etc. Then if appropriate, we consult about an emotional support animal.
-
Assessment of Animal
The animal is then brought into the office with documentation from the veterinarian and is assessed. If deemed appropriate, the animal is prescribed to the patient as an Emotional Support Animal for the next 6months-1 year.
